Counterfeit banknotes are circulating in the market – Police warn the public

The National Banknote Analysis Center of the Forensic Science Department of the Police warns the public about the circulation of counterfeit €50 banknotes, whose serial number begins with the Latin characters WR.

It is noted that these counterfeit banknotes have been identified in all districts of the government-controlled areas of Cyprus.

Therefore, the public is urged to carefully check banknotes received during cash transactions. Additionally, business owners/retailers are advised to verify banknotes using detection machines approved by the European Central Bank before accepting them.

In case such banknotes are detected, they should be withheld, and citizens are advised to contact the nearest Police Station or the District Criminal Investigation Departments (CID) at the following numbers:
